This LA Fitness Was Accused Of Racism After Calling The Cops On Black Members

There are some people who just exercise better with a buddy.

I know when I first started lifting weights I got some of the best results when I'd hit the gym with my older brother. After our schedules changed and we couldn't hit the iron as hard together, his discipline outshone mine and yes, I'd show up to lift, but never with the same intensity as when I'd go with my big bro.

Chalk it up to wanting some motivation or enjoying the communal aspect of being human, but I like having a workout partner and oftentimes get someone to tag along with me when I lift. Even if they don't go to the same gym as I do (shhhhh).

My gym doesn't technically let you bring a partner whenever you want, but there are some people who have taken the "free trial" more than a few times. Because I've been going there for a few years and I've got multiple people on my account, they don't hassle me when I bring the occasional swole-bro or sis to accompany me on my journey to jackeddom.

Now if you get caught doing it, the worst a gym would do is call you out on it or, maybe suspend your account without a refund or charge your account to let that person work out with you for a day.

You probably wouldn't expect to have the police called on you, right? Well that's allegedly what happened to Tshyrad Oates and his friend at an LA Fitness in Secaucus, NJ.

In a recent Facebook post that went viral, Oates explains the treatment he reportedly received when he received a 4-day guest pass with his workout buddy, who was a longtime member at LA Fitness and an active member.

Went to LA Fitness In secaucus to workout with my boy. I signed in under a 4day guest pass and he was already at the gym and a current member of the club. After about a half hour I was approached by this same employee telling me that I had to leave or pay and I explained to her that I just signed in with her with the guest pass. She stated that it was my friend who did not pay (unaware that her manager had already signed him in with his membership pass). My friend stated to her that he is an active and current member and that his gym tag was in his locker.

Although Oates' friend was embarrassed, they decided to try and continue with their workout, but then things got worse. The employee then tried to get them to leave despite the fact the two men proved they one was a valid, longtime member and the other had a guest pass - so technically they didn't even do anything wrong.

He felt racially profiled and embarrassed by the harassment of this La Fitness employee in front of other members at the gym. We continued our workout and next thing we know 2 police men show up questioning us on why we were their with no memberships, we explained to them about our guest pass and rescanned my friend’s member tag and it resulted in current active statues. (The La Fitness employee did look at the computer screen that showed current member status and said nothing.) 

As if that wasn't crazy enough, the gym called the police on Oates and his friend, which was a culmination of "discrimination" Oates' friend said he was subjected to for months at this LA Fitness location.

We again started our workout and 10 mins later an La Fitness manager told us to leave, we stated that we did not do anything wrong and have active current memberships. 2 mins later 5 police men show up asking us to leave. 

Management at the LA Fitness location allegedly refused to give Oates and his friend a reason for why they were being thrown out and not only was his guest pass revoked, but his buddy's membership at the club was terminated.

This La Fitness manager who refused to give us his reason to kicking us out, and refused to give us his name stated that I was banned from the gym and my friend’s gym membership has been terminated effective immediately. This is ridiculous and the last video sealed the deal. 

In the clips, the cops are visibly upset at the gym's management team.

A sales counselor manager for LA Fitness all the way out in Tennessee mentioned in Oates' comments that she was personally disgusted by the actions of the members at her sister store.

And it looks like higher-ups at the Secaucus location were as well, the manager and two employees involved with Oates' incident were fired.

Oates says that his friend was contacted by LA Fitness' corporate offices via phone, but neither or them have received any type of written apology since all of the drama went down.

People were shocked by the footage and immediately sympathized with Oates and his workout partner.

While others suggested they lawyer up for lawsuit time.
